Here at Pendle Wick HQ I am all about taking the time to give yourself some love. Self care comes in all shapes and sizes. For me; that really is lighting one of my candles to set a nice relaxing atmosphere in my home.
What's my favorite candle? Evil Queen, she's rich and fruity like a glass of red wine and best enjoyed with a saucy book or Schitts Creek marathon. For an evening relaxing in the tub? I like to mellow things out with The Witching Hour (a relaxing blend of white sage and lavender - very popular with customers at Market In The Alley).
Where does Elvis' crooning tune 'Love Me Tender' come into this? That's your candle singing to you - because your candles need some TLC as well from time to time. That's to bring you the very best value from your Pendle Wick hand poured soy candles.
These tips will help you enjoy your soy candles more, help your candles last longer, and hold their fragrance better.
My first tip and probably the most important – trim your soy candle wick ( Pendle Wick candles are sold with the wick pre trimmed for your first lighting). Trim the wick to 1/8 of an inch for a smooth burning flame. It's best to do with wick trimmers but you can also do it with scissors. Just be sure to remove the trimmings from the wax. This should be done before each candle lighting.
The first time you burn your candle is the most important burn. You have to let the entire top of the candle melt, so there's melted wax covering the entire top of the tin or jar. This takes some time but it's so important for the wax to melt from edge to edge of the vessel. It takes about one hour for every inch of diameter of the candle. For Pendle Wick candles it takes between 3-4 hours. This will prevent memory rings. A memory ring occurs when the first burn is cut short and it leaves a bit of a ring. When the candle is re-lit it will only melt within the ring and tunneling will occur and the wax on the outer ring will not melt. This tunneling prevents use of approximately 30% of your candle and I would hate for you to miss out getting the most value out of your candles from my shop.
Using a candle snuffer or a wick dipper is the preferred method for extinguishing your Pendle Wick candle. Please ensure that your candle has been fully extinguished before you leave it unattended. NEVER extinguish your candles with water as they can cause hot wax to splash for the candle jars to smash. Do NOT attempt to move your candle again until it has cooled completely.
Thank You for visiting The Pendle Wick,
Until next time #behindthecauldron.
